On Lessons:

To all those out there who have ever thought of riding and never done it – now’s your chance! Seize the day and head for Limes Farm! Just like we did…. In July 2010 we went there for our very first lessons – and really love it! Sue and I are both teachers, and now on the wrong side of 50, as pessimists might put it – but we prefer to think of ourselves as the more mature, experienced kind, with a lot of life left in us! For myself, it was the very first time EVER that I had sat on a horse, and for several sessions (forgive me dear Big Revel!) it was quite a terrifying, but at the same time exhilarating, moment. For Sue, she was revisiting a hobby she had enjoyed briefly as a teenager and wanted to try again! We were BOTH in the early stages of bereavement, for the loss of someone very close to us, and I had read that horse riding was an excellent form of therapy to help us through this, and we have to say, it has helped us to achieve this. There were days that I did not want to do anything, but the weekly riding lesson at Limes Farm kept me going, and it has become a very special time for Sue too. We really did not know that riding was such an involved sport/skill and we have learnt something new (about ourselves as well as different riding skills and horse care) every week. From the moment we are in the saddle we forget everything else going on in our lives and are totally focused on the wonderful animals we are with. The staff team are all friendly, skilled people who make you feel welcome and it has been a great privilege and eye-opener to ‘discover’ Limes Farm in the past year. We continue to enjoy our lessons very much – there’s no looking back! And we have even started the BHS Stage 1 course now, under the expert tutelage of Liz Burgess. We both wholeheartedly recommend Limes Farm Equestrian Centre to all – young or old – it’s a decision you would not regret.

Mandy Allen and Sue Wise

Limes Farm Equestrian Centre is amazing because they teach you that you can overcome your fears.

They also teach you how to do things for yourself, whereas at some riding schools you just get on and ride – at Limes you get taught how to adjust your own stirrups and girth!

I like Limes Farm, because it is a friendly place to be and you can trust the school horses to be careful and safe.

I’m a `Lime` and know I’m getting a good experience that will probably help me in later life, like if the horse spooks and goes faster than usual you hold on tight and calm them down, that is good practice for the future when you may feel scared and unsure, it’s giving you the ability to take a deep breath and calm yourself down .

I like all of the activities they do over the holidays like Easter egg hunts and Halloween ghost hunts .

Summer camp is very fun and Wendy is a really good cook  :)

Our Liveries:

Thomas, my pony, has been at Limes Farm for nearly 2 years. I feel fully confident in recommending Limes Farm to anyone. I can leave Thomas without having to worry about him and i have every confidence in any advice they give in his care and welfare. The stables are kept clean and tidy with sufficient staff to keep standards at a high level for the care of the horses. Since coming to Limes Farm my riding has improved no end and Thomas is becoming a very well-schooled pony thanks to the very good riding instructors at Limes Farm. And the indoor school is a great boom during the winter months. I would recommend Limes Farm to anyone for riding lessons and livery.

My mare travelled more than 1000 miles to get to Limes Farm and has been here for more than a year now. She absolutely loves the new, mild climate and fresh grazing every day. From a dressage-only horse she needed less than a year to convert to a safe jumping companion, all with the help of Limes Farm’s experienced riding instructors. Because I am often away for weeks or even months it’s very important for me to be able to leave my horse in safe hands of the staff which has never been a problem and I don’t ever have to worry about my mare’s well-being.

Emily

I’ve had my horse at Limes Farm for about 4 years now. We regularly compete in show jumping and Jack has been placed in main ring at Hickstead twice and came 3rd at a very big show in Wales last year. To keep a competition horse in best shape possible you need excellent facilities and working conditions which Limes Farm definitely have. I love the outdoor school with the whole set of jumps and the large indoor school enables training even in cold and dark winter evenings. My horse stays in big stable with rubber matting and shavings. The thing that really comes in handy is the new wash down area and freshly painted and equipped tack room. I really like the friendly atmosphere here at Limes Farm and enjoy coming in every day.

On Summer Camp 2011:

I really enjoyed riding and grooming the horses and ponies. At dinner, everything was spectacular! Mucking out was also fun and I adored making hay nets. My favourite ponies are Blondie and Little Revel. I have definitely learnt a lot and improved my riding this week and I recommend this Camp to everyone else!

Rebecca

I liked having two lessons a day and I had my toes up and heels down. On Monday I was riding on my own for the first time. And on Monday I laced my shoes by myself for the first time. I liked my lesson on Thursday I rode Impy and we were going to have a picnic but it was raining hard. I liked grooming our horses for ‘Best turned out Competition’ on Friday. Thursday we mucked out Mini Me’s stable and gave Buzz some hay. We had a games party night and I won the ‘pick up paper with your mouth’ competition. We made hay nets and designed and painted our own T-shirts. I had a really good time and want to come again. I am also coming to Saturday Club.

Helen

I liked making the jumps and making hay nets but most of all I liked making our own T-shirts. The grooming was fun but the mucking out was smelly. I rode Little Revel, Big Revel and Harriet.

On Adult Summer School 2010:

Had a fantastic time at Limes Farm’s adult summer school, hosted by our instructor Liz.

The two days comprised: long hack, jumping lesson and some flat work on different horses. We learnt lots about conformation, mucked outand even cleaned some tack!

Summer school was great fun, a change from being at work but where you actually learned something (Wendy’s food in the cafe was good to!).

To conclude, summer school was enjoyable, informative and great value for money and I can’t wait to go on the next one!
